Matija Kovač


 
Matija Kovač, born in 1989 in Celje, graduated from Celje First Grammar School and completed his studies in architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, in 2017, earning the title of Master of Architecture. During his studies, he enhanced his knowledge at Università Iuav di Venezia in Venice.
 
Professionally, he has worked in the fields of architecture, design, and cultural production. He is a co-founder of the design collective Zgradbazamisli, which has been active in Celje since 2016. Since his high school years, he has been actively shaping the cultural scene in the city. 
 
He is one of the founders and members of the program team of the Hiša kulture Celje (House of culture) institute, where since 2009, he has worked as a producer of musical, stage, and other performance productions and program cycles. His most notable project as a producer is the musical Veronika Deseniška, which has been performed at Celje Castle since 2016 and has been seen by more than 20,000 spectators. In 2019, he received the Brumen design award for the exhibition "From Hands to Form."
 
He entered local politics in 2014 when he was first elected to the City Council of the Municipality of Celje with preferential votes. He was re-elected in 2018, again with preferential votes.
