Aljoša Duplić


 
Aljoša Duplić has been actively engaged in environmental issues since his early school days. He graduated in biology and chemistry from the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb in 2006, after which he spent ten years working at the State Institute for Nature Protection. He has 19 years of experience in nature conservation, conservation biology and environmental protection. For two and a half years, he lectured at the Karlovac University of Applied Sciences. Since 2018, he has been working at the Institute for Environmental and Nature. For the past five years as the director of this expert and analytical unit within the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition. He participated in develop and implementation of Croatia's proposal for the Natura 2000 network and worked on issues related to invasive species and the implementation of the CITES. His particular focus is the conservation of freshwater fish and ecosystems, and in 2014, he earned a Ph.D. on the endemic softmouth trout. For the past seven years, he has been focused on all aspects of the environment, contributing to the development of measures for a more effective green transition, with an emphasis on nature-based solutions and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Management Board of the European Environment Agency, and since 2023, its vice-chair and a member of the Bureau.
